International Institute on Peace Education: Twenty-five Years of Peace Education - Lessons Learned and Future Possibilities

25th Anniversary Celebration - International Institute on Peace Education: “Twenty-five Years of Peace Education: Lessons Learned and Future Possibilities”

AUGUST 8-10, 2007 ₪ UNITED NATIONS, NEW YORK

In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the International Institute on Peace Education (IIPE) a three day symposium will be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from August 8-10 2007. This special event is intended as an opportunity for reflection on the evolution of the international peace education movement over the past quarter century and to help launch a new and intense initiative in the development and dissemination of peace education for the future. The event will offer demonstrations of lessons learned, developed and practiced by IIPE participants and others.

The IIPE is collaboratively planning the event with the UN Department of Public Information (UNDPI). We see such collaboration as providing a number of unique opportunities; to reflect on how peace educators have been teaching about important international issues which are of concern to the UN; to share and introduce peace education to a broader international community, including UN personnel and affiliated NGOs. The event will comprise plenary sessions featuring members of the global peace education community as well as interactive workshops demonstrating peace education practices from various world regions with special focus themes reflecting UN related issues and concerns.
