Initiative: Commit Universities to Peace-Campaign and the “Civil Clause movements”
Dear HumanDHS Friends
International Network of Engineers and Scientists for Global Responsibility (INES)
and the International Association Of Lawyers Against Nuclear Arms (IALANA) have compiled background information on the Commit Universities to Peace-Campaign and the “Civil Clause movements”.
Scientific resources get frozen for war, military dominance and control instead of serving humanity and providing solutions to the problems of the 21st century and the global crisis we are facing. But science must serve the people and the peaceful coexistence of peoples!
There are growing movements for a peaceful commitment of universities in Germany and Japan. Increasingly, students and scientists act on behalf of such an orientation and demand the introduction of binding rules against military related research and for a civil and peaceful orientation of their universities via “Civil Clauses”.
The brochure “Commit Universities to peace: Yes to civil clauses!” at www.inesglobal.com aims at disseminating information on the military exploitation of science, on the responsibility of science for society, and the demand for a peaceful orientation of universities. We gathered articles to give an overview on – among others – military research in Germany, Great Britain, and USA.
We hope to extend our discussions and efforts to interested groups and individuals and would like to invite you to participate in it and send us information and feedback.
