		<description>Dear colleagues,
I'm delighted to discover this posting about our programme of events, Between Kismet and Karma. Please note that the keynote speaker for our symposium, Beyond Borders (6th March) is now Rani Moorthy, artistic director, Rasa Productions, Manchester, who, among other achievements, has taken theatre to the heart of conflicted territory: the Jaffna Peninsula in Sri Lanka, site of prolonged conflict between Tamils and Sinhalese. Please find here the title and synopsis for this talk.

Make Friends with a Tamil Woman
This keynote lecture will draw on Rani Moorthy’s journey as a second generation Sri Lankan Tamil who grew up under the ethnic conflicts in Malaysia, made art in Singapore under acute political sensitivities, and who, through confronting the benign conflict embedded in the term ‘British Asian’, has embraced her dual identity as being Tamil and Woman. Speaking of and to the South Asian Diaspora and beyond about taking theatre to the war zone, it will explore the emotional landscape of fragile yet fluid identities, and assert why the personal must enter the art.

many thanks,
Ananya</description>
