Innovative Community- Based Responses to Conflict:

The Promise of the Humanness Model

899 Tenth Avenue

Room 630

Colby Hopkins

This Roundtable will focus on how community-based organizing around direct democracy has the potential to significantly mitigate conflicts deeply rooted in the political economy. Drawing on his work during Occupy Wall Street in New York City’s Liberty Square and the West Harlem 99%, Colby will present his thinking on how to frame the conversation about innovative ways of responding to the challenging conflicts presented by the economy.  Central to this discussion will be what Colby has called the Humanness Model.

COLBY HOPKINS is an independent researcher, writer, activist, and organizer. He studied global affairs at New York University where he specialized in international economic development and human rights. He was an organizer with Occupy Wall Street in New York City’s Liberty Square and the West Harlem 99% from September 2011 until August of 2012 when he moved to Palestine to teach English.

Colby is the author of Another World IS Possible: Freedom, Economic Truth, and Creating a Society of Humanness. In 2013, he co-founded The Humanness Project, which focuses on fostering community-based democracy. Through his work at The Humanness Project, he is guiding students at six universities across New England in organizing direct democracy structures in their communities. He also works with individuals with developmental disabilities and specializes in behavioral management and de-escalation.

Hello, I had a question for you! I’m doing a paper on humiliation, but I can’t find any facts, do you have any astonishing facts for me?
